Nvidia Pascal could be Geforce X80 series

Rumors start to show up

Although AMD has been on a roll when it comes to information regarding its upcoming graphics card architecture, Nvidia has been rather silent, but the newest rumor suggest that Pascal GPU will be a part of the new Geforce X80 series.

The chart which was leaked earlier certainly does not look like anything that came from Nvidia but rather something that someone created in order to put all rumors and leaks in the same place. While the Geforce X series might sound interesting, it is not necessarily true and since these are just rumors, you should take them with a bag of salt rather than just a grain.

Nvidia's Geforce GTX, GT and GTS branding has been around for quite some time and we are not convinced that Nvidia wants to get rid of it, although the X80, X80 Ti and X80 Titan sound quite good. On the other hand, Nvidia is moving to a completely new 16nm FinFET manufacturing process so changing the name scheme would not come at a better time.

When it comes to specifications, things get a bit weird as the leak suggest that Pascal GP100 GPU actually supports both GDDR5 and HBM2 memory, something that we certainly doubt as it would require Nvidia to make two different memory controllers on the same chip.

According to the leak, the flagship Geforce X80 Titan is based on 16nm GP100 GPU with 1025MHz base clock and will pack 6144 CUDA cores, 384 TMUs, 192 ROPs and feature 16GB of HBM2 clocked at 1000MHz on a 4096-bit memory interface. The TDP is set at 225W, which is in the ballpark considering that we are talking about a more efficient 16nm manufacturing process.

The so called Geforce X80 Ti will also be based on the same GP100 GPU with 1025 base clock and 5120 CUDA cores, 320 TMUs and 160 ROPs. It will pack 8GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 8000MHz on a 512-bit memory interface. The GDDR5 memory has been around for a while and it is possible that manufacturers managed to make chips that go as high as 8000MHz, as some overclockers reached those clocks already. The TDP is rumored at 225W.

The plain Geforce X80, which will be the workforce of the new Geforce lineup will be based on a 16nm GP104 GPU with 4096 CUDA cores, 256 TMUs and 128 ROPs. It will come with 6GB of GDDR5 memory, clocked at the same 8000MHz on a 384-bit memory interface.

Bear in mind that these are nothing but rumors and we already heard the GTX 1080 name already and the leaked table certainly does not look like anything that came from Nvidia. Of course, Nvidia will host its annual GPU Technology Conference on April 4th so we will certainly hear more about Pascal GPU and the lineup.
