Nvidia leads with full support for Vulkan API

AMD and Intel to follow

It appears that Nvidia really likes the Vulkan API as currently it has drivers for every single platform, including Windows, Linux, SteamOS and Android.

As Valve has announced full Vulkan API suport for its Linux-based SteamOS, Nvidia already has drivers ready, including earlier released set of drivers for Windows OS. To make things even more interesting, Nvidia has released the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for its Shield Android TV console giving it support for Vulkan API as well.

Nvidia is currently the only vendor that has full driver support for Vulkan API. Intel, Qualcomm and Imagination technologies have conformant drivers while ARM and AMD submissions are under review.

According to a post over at PCWorld.com, Nvidia been working closely with Valve to bring Vulkan API support to its Nvidia Geforce GPUs under SteamOS, while, according to Valve, Intel and AMD drivers should come soon.

In case you missed it, Vulkan API, partially based on AMD's Mantle API, is a low-level, low overhead API which allows developers a more direct control of the GPU and provides better performance on multi-core CPUs.

It appears that Nvidia certainly likes Vulkan API and has put its full support behind it so hopefully we will see a much better implementation of Vulkan API from developers soon.
