While Patriot is not a strange name on the SSD market, all of their SSDs so far have been based on SATA interface, but at CES 2016, Patriot has decided to introduce its first PCIe NVMe SSD, the Hellfire PCIe series.

To be available on the market by the end of the Q1 2016, the new Patriot Hellfire SSDs will be based on the Phison PS5007-E7 controller, an eight-channel controller with support for NVMe 1.2 protocol, PCI-Express 3.0 x4 interface and different type of NAND flash memory. In the Hellfire PCIe SSD, Patriot decided to pair it up with MLC NAND, although we do not know the precise details.

The Patriot Hellfire PCIe SSDs will be available in two form-factors, the M.2 2280 card with PCIe 3.0 x4 interface and as a half-length, half-height add-in-card with PCIe 3.0 x4 interface. Both will be available in 240GB, 480GB and 960GB capacities.

According to the details provided by Patriot, the M.2 2280 Hellfire SSD will offer sequential read and write speeds of up to 2500MB/s and 600MB/s. The add-in-card Hellfire SSD version will be significantly faster, offering sequential read and write performance of up to 3000MB/s and 2200MB/s, respectively.

There should be plenty of M.2 and HLHH AIC SSDs on the market based on the new Phison controller and according to Patriot, its Hellfire HLHH AIC PCIe version of the SSD should end up faster than the Samsung 950 Pro, which is currently one of the fastest SSDs on the market. As we always say, competition is good for consumers.

Unfortunately, Patriot did not reveal any details regarding the price of the new Hellfire PCIe SSD lineup.
