While Sony might be first with 4K display on the Xperia Z5 Premium, it appears that Samsung might follow as its upcoming Galaxy S7 Premium Edition could also feature a 4K display and be powered by an updated version of the Exynos 8890 SoC.
According to a report from Phonearena.com, citing rumors from South Korea, the Galaxy S7 Premium Edition could end up with a 4K display, a dual-lens camera module made by Sony and, most importantly, feature a different version of the Exynos 8890 chipset.
According to the rumor, the updated Exynos 8890 SoC will find its way in all Samsung Galaxy S7 smartphones other than those shipping to the US and China. Those two countries will have to make due with the Snapdragon 820 SoC. According to the report, Exynos 8890 packs the Mali-T880 GPU with 12 cores while the second version of the Exynos 8890 SoC, in the Galaxy S7 Premium Edition, could have a more powerful Mali-T880 with 14 GPU cores.
The same rumor suggest that the Galaxy S7 Premium Edition could be limited to South Korea and that we might see it as early as February 21st.
