Lite-On has unveiled its newest M.2 interface SSDs aimed at datacenters, the Lite-On EP1 series, as well as announced two new SATA interface enterprise SSDs, the new ER1 and EM1 SATA SSDs.
While the previous generation EP1 series SSDs used PCIe 2.0 x4 interface, the new Lite-On EP2 series switched to a, now more popular NVMe protocol with M.2 interface. The new NVMe protocol should bring enhanced performance, reduced latency and scalability.
To be available in capacities ranging from 120GB to 1920GB, the new EP2 will offer sequential performance of up to 2200MB/s for read and up to 1300MB/s for write while random read and write performance should be at up to 250K and 25K IOPS. It has an average latency of 35ms and it will be available in M.2 22110 form-factor (22x110mm) for the higher capacity versions and M.2 2280 for the lower capacity versions.
The rest of the features for the new Lite-On EP2 series include host power loss protection (PLP), which is quite important in the enterprise-class SSDs and a 3-year warranty, something that is standard in such enterprise-class SSDs.
While the new EP2 series SDDs are quite interesting, Lite-On has also unveiled two new standard SATA-interface enterprise SSDs, the ER1 series and the EM1 series. Both available in 2.5-inch and 1.8-inch form factors, these will be available in capacities of up to 4TB and offer significant boost from currently available enterprise-class SSDs from Lite-On.
Unfortunately, Lite-On did not unveil any more specific details as it is saving the best parts for the Flash Memory Summit 2015 which kicks off tomorrow in Santa Clara. The availability of these enterprise-class Lite-On SSDs is expected in February 2016.
