It appears that it is possible to unlock some Radeon R9 Fury graphics cards into Radeon R9 Fury X, or precisely enable some of the disabled GCN Compute Units (CUs).
According to a rather long thread over at Overclock.net forum it appears that it is possible to unlock certain Radeon R9 Fury graphics cards into fully-enabled Radeon R9 Fury X graphics card by using using a simple software unlocking tool.
According to some other posts on the same thread, same tool can be also used to unlock some disabled CUs on Hawaii and Tonga GPU based graphics cards as well, R9 390 and R9 285.
As you probably know, AMD sometime disable certain amount of CUs when some parts of the GPU are damaged and rebadge it to a lower class graphics card, like for example with the Radeon R9 Fury X which has 4096 Stream Processors and becomes R9 Fury with 3840 Stream Processors, or simply has 56 out of 64 CUs enabled.
AMD uses both software and hardware methods in disabling CUs so you might be either lucky and get a fully enabled Fury X or some other graphics card with a simple software unlock. There are currently no way to tell which GPUs come with software disabled CUs and it is pretty much a lottery, but you can always try your own with a simple CUINFO software developed by Overclock.net forum member TX12.
Some users had success in unlocking their GPUs and these graphics cards show a boost in performance, confirming that the soft-mod is actually working.
