We already wrote about Nvidia's decision to disable overclocking on Geforce 900M mobile graphics cards, which did not go well with users and it appears that Nvidia has buckled under pressure and will bring back overclocking feature with the next driver update.

While Nvidia Geforce 900M lineup is mostly based on the Maxwell architecture, which is very power efficient and quite overclocking-friendly, it was quite a surprise to see that Nvidia has decided to disable overclocking on those GPUs. While this move left quite a few angry users, which had every right to be angry, it appears that Nvidia will again enable overclocking with the next driver update.

Nvidia's explanation was quite generic, stating that notebooks were not designed to support overclocking but users that buy such notebook should be left with a choice, despite the fact that voids the warranty.




Nvidia now came back with a new response stating that overclocking for GTX notebooks will be once again enabled with the upcoming driver release next month. Nvidia also noted that they obsess to bring every possible optimization for a stable system by balancing thermal, power, and acoustic performance but will enable overclocking once again so users looking to push their systems a bit further will again be happy.

It is good that Nvidia has listened to the community and while overclocking will still void the warranty, it needs to be there as it is choice that user has to make, and not Nvidia.
