ASUS announces Strix Geforce GTX 960

With DirectCU II cooler and factory-overclock

Following the launch of US $199 priced Nvidia Geforce GTX 960 graphics card, ASUS has announced its Strix version of the GTX 960 which will feature factory-overclocked settings, DirectCU II dual fan cooler with 0dB fan technology and ASUS' well known Super Alloy Power components.

In case you missed it, the Nvidia Geforce GTX 960 is based on a new 28nm GM206 Maxwell GPU packing 1024 CUDA cores and 2GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 128-bit memory interface. It also comes with all "Maxwell features" including MFAA (multi-frame sampled anti-aliasing), Dynamic Super-Resolution, G-Sync, ShadowPlay and more.

In order to stand out from a flood of similar Geforce GTX 960 based graphics cards on the market, ASUS has decided to launch a Strix version. Featuring a factory-overclock of 1253MHz for the GPU base and 1317MHz for the GPU Boost clocks in OC Mode and 1228MHz for the GPU base and 1291MHz for the GPU Boost clock in Gaming Mode, the ASUS Strix GTX 960 is around 12 percent faster in Assassin's Creed Unity and Battlefied 4, when compared to reference design. The 2GB of GDDR5 memory also got overclocked to a rather impressive 7200MHz.

As expected, the ASUS Strix GTX 960 is paired up with ASUS' recognizable DirectCU II dual-fan cooler, which should offer up to 30 percent cooler and three times quieter performance when compared to the reference design. It also feature 0dB fan technology that does not spin up fans until the temperature reaches certain level.

As noted, the ASUS Strix GTX 960 also comes with ASUS' 5-phase Super Alloy Power design which should improve energy efficiency by 15 percent, widen voltage modulation tolerance and improves overall stability and longevity by 2.5X compared to reference designs. The 5-phase VRM needs a single 6-pin PCI-Express power connector and features LED indicator to ensure successful plug-in.

As it was the case with previous ASUS Strix series graphics cards, the Strix GTX 960 also comes bundled with ASUS GPU Tweak with XSplit Gamecaster.

We already had a chance and pleasure to review the ASUS Strix GTX 960, where it was impressive enough to get five out five stars and our warm recommendation. The ASUS Strix GTX 960 is currently available in Europe for around €215, while in the USA, it sells for around US $210.
