Samsung has now officially released its virtual reality headset, the Gear VR, and is available for US $199. While it might be a good Christmas gift, it still needs a Galaxy Note 4 phablet to work.
Developed together with the Oculus VR, and pretty much using the same technology as the Oculus Rift, the Gear VR does not come with a screen but rather uses Samsung's flagship Galaxy Note 4 phablet in order to work. Dubbed as the "Innovator Edition", Samsung is selling the Gear VR with a special note that this one is a "device targeted specifically to developers or early adopters of technology."
There have been plenty of positive feedback for the Samsung Gear VR, and while the Gear VR does not come with a steep price, you still need a rather pricey Galaxy Note 4 phablet, and it should make sense to those that already own that device.
Hopefully, Oculus VR will soon have the consumer version of the Oculus Rift ready.
