Microsoft's plans were to compete on the Chromebooks market with the brand new HP Stream, but it looks like this is going to happen. HP unveiled the new laptop a few hours ago, but the price is about 100$ higher than what we expected.
Microsoft is trying to be the best competitor on the Chromebook market, and back in July it looked like HP was the most suitable partner to offer under-200$ systems, but it looks like this is going to happend, at least for now.
The rumored specs of the new HP Stream has been confirmed (AMD A4 Micro6400T quad-core SoC at 1.6GHz), while the price, which should have been around 199$, is actually more in the 300$ area. The Stream will be available on the market starting from 24th September, but we think Microsoft is not going to be happy about the MSRP.
The pre-installed OS is Windows 8.1 Bing, and as noted, the price should be 299$, which makes the new HP Stream way more expensive than Chromebooks unveiled by the same company, HP, which are based on Intel and Nvidia Tegra K1 chips.
