ASUS officially unveils the ZenWatch WI500Q

IFA 2014: 1.63-inch AMOLED screen with curved glass

During its even held at IFA 2014 show in Berlin, ASUS has officially unveiled and announced its new smartwatch, ASUS ZenWatch WI500Q. Based on a 1.63-inch AMOLED screen placed behind a curved glass and powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 400 chipset, this Google AndroidWear based smartwatch should start selling before the end of the year.

The main feature of the ASUS ZenWatch is its 1.63-inch 320x320 (278ppi) AMOLED touchscreen placed behind Corning Gorilla Glass 3 2.5D curved glass. The ZenWatch WI500Q is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 400 SoC with 1.2GHz clocked CPU paired up with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal flash storage.

Design wise, ASUS' ZenWatch is not half bad either as ASUS has decided to use a stainless steel desing with curved glas and replaceable brown leather strap. The ZenWatch is IP55 certified, which makes it water resistant and not water proof.

As expected, the ZenWatch WI500Q will be running on Google's AndroidWear OS which means that you will have to pair it up with a smartphone that is running on Android 4.3 or higher, over integrated Bluetooth 4.0, of course. It features 9-axis sensor as well as Bio sensor, which will take care of the Wellness app that will allow you to monitor your heart rate, calories burned, activity duration and much more.

ASUS has also announced that the ZenWatch will ship with a couple of apps that will allow you to control your smartphone as well.

The precise dimensions of the ASUS ZenWatch are set at 50.6x39.8x7.9-9.4mm and the body weighs 50g while the strap is 25g. It features a polymer 1.4Whr battery that should be enough for a full day of usage. Unfortunately, ASUS did not mention anything about the charging but it did note that it will feature a microUSB connector on the Charging Cradle.

According to ASUS, the ZenWatch will be available by the end of the year, or a bit more precisely, late Q3 or early Q4. ASUS has been talking about the European price during IFA 2014 and noted that it will cost €199 or less when it launches.
