According to an interview with CD Projekt Red's lead engine programmer for the upcoming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt game, the upcoming Microsoft DirectX 12 API will not fix Xbox One issues with 1080p resolution.
In an interview with
Gamingbolt.com, CD Projekt Red's lead engine programmer for The Witcher 3: wild Hunt, Balazs Torok, noted that the upcoming Microsoft DirectX 12 API will not improve Xbox One issue with 1080p resolution. According to Torok, there is a lot of confusion regarding DirectX 12 and the improvements it will bring.
According to Torok, DirectX 12 will not help Xbox One at all, since most games simply "can't go 1080p because the addition load on the shading units would be too much", and "DX12 is not going to change anything."
On the other hand, Torok also noted that DirectX 12 will allow developer to push more triangles to the GPU of the console but will not be able to shade them, so while it will get some improvements, it will still not help Xbox One that much.
Microsoft already gave Xbox One a bit more performance power with June SDK update that provided access to the extra GPU performance usually reserved for the OS and hopefully it will manage to get around 1080p issues it currently has.
On the other hand, the DirectX 12 will certainly bring some impressive graphics details the PC which has much more performance power compared to consoles.
