The Raspberry Pi foundation has revealed its latest and new Raspberry Pi Model B+ which, according to the company, brings a number of important changes and improvements which come from user requests and feedback on the original Raspberry Pi micro-computer.
The new Raspberry Pi Model B+ is powered by the same Broadcom BCM2835 SoC with a 700MHz CPU part and dual-core GPU and has 512MB of memory as the Model B but brings two more USB 2.0 ports, a microSD card slot, which replaces the SD card on the Model B as well as a lower power consumption. The GPIO connector the Model B+ now has 40-pins while the audio part has been redesigned with dedicated low-noise power supply which should provide cleaner sound output.
The most important update for the Model B+ is its lower power consumption where linear have been replaced with switching regulators. The power consumption of the Model B+ is rated at between 0.5W and 1W, which is also how the new Raspberry Pi can have four USB devices without the need for a separate power input.
While the Raspberry Pi Model B+ has certainly changed, its price remains the same at US $35.
