VAIO and Sony are no longer partners

Sony is free to work on new projects

After years of partnership, Sony and VAIO are no longer a team: the deal expired in July, and apparently VAIO is meanwhile presenting new products.

Sony set themself free of VAIO, their laptop branch, for economical reasons. As today, the laptop company will keep working under the name VAIO Corporation.

Through their new website, the VAIO managers showed a bunch of new projects, and they ensured the 240 Sony employees that they will not lose their job. It doesn't come as a surprise that the new VAIO Fit and Pro, launched by Sony less than a year ago, are not available in VAIO portfolio. At the moment, they are available through Sony web shop, but they ship without any Sony logo, they just bear the VAIO logo.

Sony is still pretty close to VAIO since it owns 5% of the company, which allows to keep in touch without having to invest a lot of money. VAIO products are only available in Japan at the moment since the company is a new born, but their name is world-wide famous and they won't take too long before they're able to come back on european market.
