According to the latest report, Nvidia will be switching from 16nm to 14nm with its next-gen GPUs and from TSMC to Samsung.

According to a report coming from South Korea, Samsung managed to secure a contract with Nvidia to make the next-gen GPUs on its 14nm manufacturing process. This raises a couple of question as, according to the report, these GPUs will be based on Nvidia's current Pascal GPU architecture.

This could mean that that the Volta GPU architecture has been delayed and we might see a 14nm Pascal-based refresh sometime next year. It is also a big surprise since Nvidia's current 16nm TSMC-made Pascal GPUs, which is behind the GTX 1080, GTX 1070 and the GTX 1060 graphics card, are doing quite well, in both performance and power efficiency.

As this is a rumor coming from South Korea you should take it with a grain of salt as it could also mean that Nvidia's Volta GPU architecture could take advantage of Samsung's 14nm manufacturing process while Pascal GPUs will remain on TSMC 16nm process.

This also suggest that TSMC will lose one of its biggest clients, which is yet another surprise.

Hopefully, we will hear more information as we draw closer to the end of the year.
