With the launch of Intel Broadwell-E HEDT scheduled for Computex 2016 show, ASUS has decided to unveil its new motherboards based on a well known X99 chipset, the X99-E, X99-A II, X99-Deluxe II and the ROG Strix X99 Gaming.
Although Intel's upcoming Broadwell-E CPUs will work on existing X99-based motherboards, with a simple BIOS update, plenty motherboard manufacturers have decided to refresh their motherboard lineups and ASUS is not an exception either, coming up with four new motherboards that will cover different market segments.
The list starts with a new mainstream X99 motherboard, the X99-E, which brings plenty of high-end features to those looking to adopt Intel's new HEDT platform without breaking a budget. It comes with three PIC-Express 16 slots with support for 3-way SLI and CrossfireX, single reinforced SafeSlot, eight DDR4 memory slots, Gigabit Ethernet, M.2, SATA Express and ten SATA 6Gbps ports, USB 3.1 Type-C port, Crystal Sound 3 audio and on-board Aura lighting.
The ASUS X99-A II makes slightly less compromises compared to the X99-E and although it comes with a slightly higher price, it adds additional USB Type-A port, one U.2 storage port and on-board AURA lighting with strip header.
The new flagship motherboard is the X99-Deluxe II, which has four PCI-Express x16 slots (x8/x8/x8/x8), all with SafeSlot reinforcement, two Intel Gigabit Ethernet ports, integrated 3x3 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0, two U.2 ports, in addition to M.2 SATA Express and 10 SATA ports as well as three USB 3.1 Type-A and one USB 3.1 Type-C port. It also comes with onboard AURA lighting with strip header and the same Crystal Sound 3 audio.
The final motherboard in ASUS' X99 refresh is the gaming oriented ASUS ROG STRIX X99 Gaming, which is pretty much the X99-A II but with integrated 2x2 802.11ac WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0, different, gaming oriented color scheme and SupremeFX integrated audio. It also comes with ASUS AURA lighting but with addition RGB lighting around the I/O shroud and central ROG badge, giving gamers further customization options.
All three motherboards should launch as soon as Intel officially launches its Broadwell-E CPU lineup, which should happen at Computex 2016 show at the end of this month. ASUS' new motherboards should be available immediately with a price set at US $219 for the X99-E, US $249 for the X99-A II, US $419 for the flagship X99-Deluxe II and US $339 for the new ROG Strix X99 Gaming.
