Intel updates mobile Haswell and Bay Trail lineup

Intel Core i5, Core i7 and N-series SKUs

Intel has updated its Haswell and Bay Trail mobile lineup with a couple of new SKUs, including four Core i7 SKUs for high-performance notebooks, three Core i5 SKUs for Ultrabook and ultra-thin notebooks as well as four Bay Trail Celeron and Pentium N-series SKUs for the budget mobile market segment.

The new Haswell mobile lineup starts off with four Core i7 SKUs aimed to be used with higher-end notebooks, including the Core i7-4980HQ, Core i7-4870HQ, Core i7-4770HQ and the Core i7-4578U. The top of the line is the Core i7-4980HQ, a quad-core SKUs with Hyper-Threading that works at 2.8GHz base and 4.0GHz Turbo core clocks. It packs 6MB of L3 cache, features Intel's Iris Pro 5200 GPU clocked at 200/1300MHz, has 47W TDP and a US $623 price.

The two next Core i7 SKUs, the Core i7-4870HQ and the Core i7-4770HQ are also both quad-core parts with support for Intel Hyper-Threading, have the same 6MB of L3 cache, same 47W TDP and Intel Iris Pro 5200 GPU clocked at 200/1200MHz, as well as the same US $434 price tag. The difference between these two SKUs is in their base and Turbo clocks set at 2.5GHz/3.7GHz for the Core i7-4870HQ and 2.2GHz/3.4GHz for the Core i7-4770HQ. The last in the new Haswell Core i7 mobile lineup is the dual-core Core i7-4578U CPU clocked at 3.0GHz/3.5GHz that also support Hyper-Threading but packs 4MB of L3 cache, Intel Iris 5100 GPU clocked at 200/1200MHz, lower 28W TDP and a US $426 price tag.

The more mainstream ULV Haswell mobile lineup includes three dual-core parts, the Core i5-4308U, Core i5-4278U and the Core i5-4210H. All three will pack 3MB of L3 cache and support for Hyper-Threading. The Core i5-4308U works at 2.8GHz/3.3GHz base and Turbo clocks, features Iris 5100 IGP worksing at 200/1200MHz, has 28W TDP and a US $315 price. The Core i5-4278U works at 2.6GHz/3.1GHz, also feature Iris 5100 IGP clocked at slightly lower 200/1100MHz, same 28W TDP and the same US $315 price tag. The last in the Core i5 mobile Haswell lineup is the Core i5-4210H which works at 2.9GHz/3.5GHz clocks, features Intel HD 4600 IGP clocked at 400/1150MHz, has higher 47W TDP but lower US $225 price tag.

In addition to a couple of mobile Haswell SKUs, Intel has also updated its Bay Trail Celeron and Pentium N-series lineup which are also manufactured on 22nm manufacturing process. These chips have very low TDP and are mostly aimed at budget notebook lineup. The list starts with a quad-core Pentium N3540 which lacks Hyper-Threading, works at 2.16GHz/2.66GHz CPU clocks while the GPU is clocked at 313/896MHz, has 2MB of L2 cache, 7.5W TDP and US $161 price tag.

The list follows with quad-core Celeron N2940 part which also lacks Hyper-Threading, works at 1.83GHz/2.25GHz CPU clocks, has same 2MB of L2 cache, GPU working at 313/854MHz and the same 7.5W TDP. The next two SKUs in the Bay Trail lineup, the Celeron N2840 and the Celeron N2808 are quite similar, as both are dual-core parts without Hyper-Threading support, 1MB of L2 cache and the same 311/792MHz GPU frequency. The difference is in the CPU frequency as well as the TPD since the Celeron N2840 works at 2.16/2.58GHz and has a higher 7.5W TDP, while the Celeron N2808 works at 1.58/2.25GHz frequency and has a lower 4.3W TDP. All three new Bay Trail Celeron N-series parts will have the same US $107 price.

These new Haswell Core i7 and Core i5 SKUs as well as Bay Trail Celeron and Pentium N-series SKUs should start to appear in various notebooks on the market quite soon.
