Intel to retire five CPUs in 2014

Two Core i3 and three Core i7 chips

According to a report from CPU-World.com via Intel's latest Product Change Notification (PCN), Intel plans to discontinue five CPUs in 2014, including two Core i3 Ivy Bridge desktop CPUs as well as three mobile Core i7 G2 socket CPUs.

The first to be discontinued will be the Core i3-3210 as well as the Core i3-3225, both socket LGA 1155 Ivy Bridge based CPUs. Both the OEM as well as the retail versions will be discontinued.

The next in line are Socket G2 Core i7 mobile CPUs that were available only as OEM versions, including the Core i7-3720QM, Core i7-3820QM as well as the Core i7-3920XM.

All three Core i7 mobile CPUs were released back in April 2012 while Core i3 desktop parts were released in September 2012 and January 2013. Intel will be taking last orders on all five CPUs until March 28th 2014 while last shipments are expected on September 5th 2014, so they will be around for at last a bit longer.
