The main problem of Google and its Android OS has always been a slow update process that is mostly blamed on manufacturers rather than Google itself, thus more than 33 percent of active Android devices are still running on Android 2.3.x Gingerbread OS rather than the new Jelly Bean. The good side of the story is that the Android 4.1.x and 4.2.x Jelly Bean is now running on over 40 percent of active devices.
These results are much better and it appears that manufacturers are finally starting to catch up despite the fact that there are still 33.1 percent devices running on some version of the Android 2.3.x Gingerbread. The Android 4.0.x Ice Cream Sandwich is currently on 22.5 percent of active devices.
The most important part of the news is that Android 4.1.x is currently running on 34 percent of devices and Android 4.2.x is on 6.5 percent of active devices which adds up to a respectable 41.5 percent.
The interesting part of the announcement is the fact that there are still active devices that are running on Android 1.6 Donut (0.1%), Android 2.1 Eclair (1.2%) and Android 2.2 Froyo (2.5%).
