Sony announces its first-quarter financial report

No Sony PS Vita in the report

Sony has posted its first-quarter financial report revealing that company was quite good considering the fact that it had no noticeable gains or losses and despite its has a high 322 percent increase in operating cost thanks to the upcoming Playstation 4 launch.


Sony's game business managed to bring in US $1.2 billion in sales which is only slightly down from last year first-quarter. Sony reported a loss of US $149 million or 322 percent increase in operating income due to Playstation 4 R&D which is quite high considering its US $3.5 billion loss in the first-quarter last year. The report also notes that Sony managed to level the loss with a compensation from winning a Blu-Ray patent case.

Sony PS Vita was missing from the report despite the fact that it noted a drop in sales of PS3, PS2 and PSP. The combined sales of PSP and PS Vita were at 0.6 million while combined sales of PS3 and PS2 were at 1.1 million.

Sony expects some pretty good financial results in the future thanks to the launch of the Playstation 4 and drop in the operating income.
