Snapdragon 800 in tablets, TVs and computers

Up to 40 percent faster than Snapdragon 600

In an interview with Fudzilla.com, Qualcomm's marketing vice president, Tim McDonough noted that Snapdragon 800 aims at smartphone, tablets as well as smart TVs and computers.

While Snapdragon 600 is doing quite well and managed to get most recent design wins, Qualcomm aims to push its Snapdragon 800 in most if not all devices, including smartphone, tablets, smart TVs and even computers. According to him, Snapdragon 800 could offer up to 40 percent better performance when compared to the Snapdragon 600 chipset. It should show up in the second half of this year.

The smart TV market sounds like a great deal for Qualcomm and its Snapdragon 800 chipset as this one supports Ulta HD, 4K resolution playback and can record it. It basically has everything that a smart TV might need, at least when we are talking about high-end TV sets.

Tim McDonough also noted that the success lies in Qualcomm's ability to execute and not promise anything that they can not deliver. Qualcomm was right on schedule with its Snapdragon 600 chipset and that resulted in some great wins. It looks like that the Snapdragon 800 one might bring even more success to Qualcomm and even some markets where we did not see Qualcomm that much.
