OCZ Vertex 5 SSD rumored

Tweaked Barefoot 3 controller and 20nm MLC NAND

Nordichardware.com spilled some rumor details regarding the possible OCZ Vertex 5 SSD that could appear on the market by the end of the Q2 and put some pressure on Samsung's 840 lineup.

According to first details, OCZ's Vertex 5 could be based on the same in-house developed Indilinx Barefoot 3 controller but with a few tweaks. According to the info, OCZ plans to pair up the tweaked Barefoot 3 controller with 20nm MLC NAND chips ending with performance that is somewhere between Vertex 4 and the Vector. Nordichardware notes that Vector will still be sold but it is not clear if OCZ plans a price-cut as soon as Vertex 5 launches.

The new OCZ Vertex 5 should appear in the market by the end of Q2 and will probably be available in 128, 256 and 512GB capacities while 64GB model is quite unlikely.
