Seagate shipping 4TB HDDs with 1TB platters

Better performance, lower power consumption

Seagate has announced that its has now started to ship, the industry's first and only 4TB hard drive with 1TB-per-platter technology.



Seagate claims that the four-platter desing is a winning combination as it brings the highest possible performance while reducing price, thus providing consumers with the best possible solution.


Seagate also claims that this one has the highest average data rate of any desktop HDD on the market at 146MB/s and it even consumes 35 percent less power when compared to the competition.


The rest of the specifications include 64MB of cache and a 7200RPM spinning speed. According to MaximumPC.com, the drive can be bought for US $212 in the US retail/e-tail.
