ADATA has unveiled its newest XPG series SX8000 SSD series which will be based on 2280 M.2 form-factor and use PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe interface.
Based on Silicon Motion SM2260 controller and yet to be detailed 3D MLC NAND, the new XPG SX8000 M.2 SSD will be available in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB capacities.
The sequential performance varies depending on the capacity, so the 512GB and 1TB versions will be peaking at 2400MB/s for read and 1000MB/s for write, the 256GB version will peak at 2000MB/s and 600MB/s while the 128GB version will hit 1000MB/s for read and 300MB/s for write.
Same goes for random 4K performance, reaching 100K IOPS for read and 140K IOPS for write on the 512GB and 1TB versions, 80K IOPS and 130K IOPS for 256GB version and 45K IOPS and 75K IOPS on the 128GB version.
The Silicon Motion SM2260 controller does not sound bad at all on paper, sporting two ARM Cortex cores, eight NAND flash channels and 256-bit AES support and should behave well when paired up with 3D MLC NAND, most likely coming from either IMFT or SK Hynix. The XPG SX8000 SSD series also comes with SLC Caching, DRAM Cache Buffer and LDPC ECC technologies.
Backed by a five-year warranty, we still do not know the precise endurance rating of the new ADATA XPG SX8000 SSD series but it does have an MTBF of 2 million hours.
Unfortunately, ADATA did not reveal any details regarding the price of the new XPG SX8000 SSD series so we will wait to see it in retail before giving out any final judgement.
