Nvidia gets another record quarter in Q2 FY2017 report

Reports record revenue

Nvidia has announced its quarterly earnings report for the second quarter of the 2017 fiscal year, reporting a record revenue of US $1.43 billion, up by 24 percent compared to the last year.

In addition to the record US $1.43 billion revenue, Nvidia reported gross margin of 57.9 percent, up by 2.9 percent compared to the same period last year with operating expenses dropping by 9 percent to US $509 million and operating income of US $318 million, up by 317 percent compared to the same period last year, due to the Icera modem division write-down.

Nvidia net income was also up to US $253 million, or 873 percent compared to the last year while earnings per share were up to $0.40, or 700 percent compared to the last year.

As expected, the majority of the revenue came from Nvidia's GPU business, which brought in US $1.196 billion, which was up by 18 percent compared to the last year and up by 14 percent compared to the previous quarter. Nvidia Tegra platform was also up by 30 percent compared to the last year and Nvidia even got US $66 million from Intel licensing.

Gaming is still the biggest cash cow for Nvidia, scoring US $781 million, up by 18 percent compared to the last year.

Nvidia also expects the revenue to be even higher next year, with US $1.68 billion. This does not come as a surprise as the company has recently released plenty of Pascal-based graphics cards, including the flagship Titan X, so this will probably have a big impact on its next quarterly financial report.
