Western Digital stops shipping PATA drives

EOL from December 29th, 2013

Western Digital has had a few PATA drives in its portfolio for users which for example wanted to upgrade very old notebooks with a larger and quicker drive. Now the company announced, that they will stop shipping PATA drive by the end of December.

PATA - parallel ATA - was the predecessor of SATA, whereas the industry starte to move to the latter over a decade ago. Already back in May Western Digital has now issued a product discontinuation notification (PDN) for their last remaining Caviar PATA hard drives. The model numbers are: WD800AAJB (80 GB), WD1600AAJB (160 GB), WD2500AAJB (250 GB), WD3200AAJB (320 GB), WD4000AAJB (400 GB), and WD5000AAJB (500 GB). Last shipments from Western Digital to OEMs and distributors will be taken care of until 29th of December 2013. After this date PATA will be officially end of life, when it comes to Western Digital.
