Microtransactions in The Elder Scrolls Online

Just a few days ago we reported that The Elder Scrolls Online will require monthly subscription. Apart from that we were saying that we acutally favor a monthly subscription plan over microtransaction. But now ther comes the bummer: The Elder Scrolls Online will have both.

The folks from AusGamers have been talking to Matt Frior, Director of The Elder Scrolls Online, and he said that things won't be that bad. Gamers can only buy fun items and nothing that is really relevant to the core of the game. There are for example things to change your name you have to pay for.

So, no items that affect the core of the game in exchange for microtransactions? Sound reasonable so far. But still, since we will all have to pay monthly, why do they include montly payments at all? To us it sound a bit like flipping every door mat to find even the last penny. From a Swiss point of view, we would just say: Why don't you just charge $1 more per month and then everything is included in the monthly subscription? This way it's just a bit of a pain.
