According to a report from GameInformer, citing anonymous sources close to the company, Amazon is gearing up to release an Android based console that should launch before the end of this year.

According to Gameinformer's sources who have knowledge of the in-development hardware, Amazon will be using titles that are already availble on this platform and feature its own, dedicated controller. According to other rumors around the net, Amazon's console will not just be yet another set top box with a controller.

According to Venturebeat, Amazon already demonstrated a version of the hardware to some developers but it is still not clear whether it actually is going to release the console or was just getting an opinion and testing the market.

There is not much competition on the market as Amazon would clearly only compete with OUYA.
