Like announced yesterday, AMD will host a press event on Hawaii on the 25th of September, where they reveal some details about the upcoming series of graphics cards, with codename Volcanic Island. Today, only one day later, there is a guy in the Chiphell Forums, who claims to have one of the upcoming cards at hand. He even went on to publish the first benchmark results, while testing the card with 3DMark Firestrike Extreme.
Unfortunately there is no exact information the GPU that has actually been tested, which in the end means, that these results have to be taken with a grain of salt. If we believe this result, then the upcoming AMD GPU will be able to score 4816 Points in 3DMark Firestrike Extreme. If you keep in mind, that the almighty GeForce GTX Titan is able to score between 4500 and 4700 Points and the GeForce GTX 780 pushes 4400 to 4500 points, then the upcoming AMD card would be the new king of the hill.
If these results are actually correct and display the truth, then they're especially impressive, if you compare them to the Radeon HD GHz edition with is capable of producing between 3300 and 3500 Points in 3DMark Firestrike Extreme. Compared to the predecessor the new upcoming card would be about 40 percent faster, which is really quite something. Apparently such a performance increase is a necessity for AMD to keep up with the GeForce GTX Titan. But unfortunately for AMD there is already the question on the horizon, for how long the red fraction could enjoy the spot in the sun, since we expect NVIDIA to make solid process with Maxwell.
