In an interview with Gamespot, Ubisoft's SVP of Marketing and Sales, Tony Key, noted that the success of the Far Cry 3 title has ensured the continuation of the franchise and that the company is "clearly going to make another one."
Key also noted that gamers are looking for open world games and do not want linear. Thus, Ubisoft is investing "huge portions" of its resources on it as it is clearly "what consumers want."
While there is always going to be a place for linear experiences and such games, Ubisoft clearly thinks that the key to success, at least when it comes to Far Cry franchise, is the open world experience.
