Sony officially shows the Playstation 4

Coming during holiday season for US $399/€399

While it did talk a lot about the actual software and hardware behind the Playstation 4 back in February, Sony actually did not show the console and did not even hint about the price of it. Yesterday, at its E3 Expo press conference, Sony finally decided to unveil it and give out some of those juicy details.

The design itself is a bit of a let down but mostly due to high expectations and previously seen renderings that showed some quite futuristic designs. The new Playstation 4 is quite boxy and painted in stealth matte black. Unlike Playstation 3 which opted for curves, the new Playstation 4 is more closer to Playstation 2 with flat sharp angular design. The front will feature slot-in Blu-ray drive and two USB ports placed inside an embossed central part of the console. The back side has bunch of ventilation slots as well as all other connectivity ports like Ethernet, HDMI, optical port, aux port and power port.

Sony also made quite a blow to Microsoft with the price as it announced that Playstation 4 will be coming to the USA and Europe sometimes around the holiday season with a US $399 and €399 price tag. This price includes a console and a single Dualshock 4 controller. Additional controller will have a US $59 price tag, as will the Playstation Camera accessory.

In any case, we will see a big battle between Xbox One and Playstation 4.
