AMD Kyoto microserver detailed

Aimed at media workloads

The Inquirer managed to get their hands on a slide confirming that we will see the AMD Kyoto based microservers in the mid-2013 and these will be aimed for use in media workload servers.

We have already seen HP's Moonshot system and cartridges based on Atom S1200 series CPU aimed at web hosting market and it is expected that HP will introduce Avoton-based cartridges bringing double the amount of threads and more performance. Now, it appears that Moonshot systems might not be exclusively made for Intel CPUs as HP plans cartridges with AMD "Kyoto" CPUs, aimed for media workload servers.

According to the slide, the chips will use a "small core" x86 architecture, will be available in CPU and APU versions and a TDP as low as 9 Watt. Those versions with integrated GPU will have a 11 Watt or higher TDP and are expected to show up sometimes in mid-2013
