Google and Asus might be on a roll as they are now expecting to ship up to 8 million next-generation Nexus 7 tablet this year. In case you missed it, Asus switched from Nvidia to Qualcomm for its next-generation Nexus 7 and with rumored price of US $199, the upcoming Nexus 7 might definitely be a winner.
Earlier rumors stated that the new Nexus 7 might have a higher resolution screen, thinner bezel design and will use yet to be revealed Qualcomm chip, rather than Nvidia Tegra used in the previous-generation Nexus 7. Google and Asus actually expect to ship one million units in May and an incredible eight million by the end of this year.
The new Nexus 7 should be manufactured by Quanta Computer. Google plans to host its traditional Google I/O developer forum on May 15th in San Francisco and it is quite clear that both the new Nexus 7 as well as the Google Glass are expected to be the key part of the Google I/O.
Some sources are even pushing for the US $149 price tag, but in any case, we'll be sure as we draw closer to May announcement and June/July availability date.
