AMD HD 7990 Malta comes on 22nd of April?

Much earlier than expected

According to a user post over at Expreview forums, we might see the AMD HD 7990 Malta dual-GPU graphics card earlier than expected. AMD has been working on it for quite some time and according to rumors it could launch on 22nd of April.

The upcoming graphics card was already up and running at GDC 2013 where it powered upcoming DICE/EA Battlefield 4 game made with Frostbite 3 engine. According to what little info and rumors we had so far, AMD HD 7990 Malta will feature two Tahiti GPUs that will be based on GCN 2.0 architecture which should put it in advantage over HD 7990 New Zealand based graphics cards. It should outperform the HD 7990 New Zealand graphics card release by some AIB partners and even use less power in doing so as the reference design relied on "only" two 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors.

The 22nd April sounds really nice but also quite strange as we are only seven days away from it. AMD is either doing a really good job in keeping rumors contained and managed to sneak it below the radar of many rumor sites or simply the 22nd of April is not that precise rumor. AMD could also do a paper-launch and a proper preview of the HD 7990 Malta performance while the retail/e-tail version could come later.
