In order to reply to AMD's new Ryzen and Threadripper CPUs, Intel is planning to increase the core count on their next-generation desktop platform. According to the latest rumors, Intel might add a eight core CPU regarding their 9th generation of mainstream desktop CPUs.


The notebook and workstation maker Eurocom, has posted some confidential information on support forum. According to the leak, Intel is preparing to increase CPU core-counts on its MSDT (mainstream desktop) platform once again in 2019. The upcoming Intel Z390 chipset will be compatible with Intel's 9th generation "Ice Lake" processors.

A few weeks ago, Videocardz has spotted an entry in the Futuremark database that looks like the upcoming 8-core processor Ice Lake. The processor was listed as a generic, in other words the microcode wasn't updated for recognize the CPU. Furthermore the base clock was rather low maybe due to an incompatibility with SystemInfo.

If the rumor is confirmed, we might see a new series of CPUs quite soon.
