A few weeks ago AMD announced their Ryzen Threadripper series of processors. As we all know meanwhile these chips will feature even more cores than the currently available Ryzen 7 CPUs and on top of that they will be based on a new AMD high-end desktop platform. According to the latest rumors AMD is to launch RYZEN Threadripper on July 27th.
It is expected that AMD will launch two 12-core and two 16-core chips by the end of next month. According to the latest rumors, AMD's entire Ryzen Threadripper CPU lineup includes two 16-core CPUs, three 14-core chips, two 12-core processors and two 10-core CPUs. The pack is led by the AMD Ryzen 1998X and the Ryzen 1998 processors. The base clock frequency ranges from 3.2 GHz to 3.5 GHz and the Ryzen 1998X features XFR technology. According to Wccftech, the TDP of this new 16-core CPUs is set to 155W.
There are also three 14-core CPUs: the Ryzen 1977X, the 1977 and the 1976X. Clock speeds of these CPUs range between 3.20 and 3.60 GHz. All SKUs feature SMT, enabling 28 logical CPUs. The performance of the new 14-core models should be comparable to Intel’s Core i9 Skylake-X processors. Furthermore there are two 12-core CPUs and their clock speeds range between 3.00 and 3.20 GHz with a TDP of 125W. Last but not least there are two 10-core processors with a base clock between 3.10 and 3.60 GHz. All CPUs will support quad channel DDR4 memory at 3200MHz.
Alongside the new chips motherboard vendors are expected to launch their first socket TR4 (SP3r2) based motherboards featuring the AMD X399 chipset. Overall it sounds like July is going to become a hot month.
