Intel might release two new CPUs

Right before AMD launches Ryzen

According to a report from CPCHardware, Intel is currently planning to release two new Core i7 and Core i5 processors. These two could be the Core i7-7740K and the Core i5-7640K and Intel might already add those chips to their portfolio next week. Right now, AMD's Ryzen line up is rumored to consist of several R7, R5 and R3 CPUs. The R7 and R5 SKUs are supposed to compete against Intel’s Core i7 and Core i5 chips, while the quad core R3 series should be up against the Core i3 CPUs.

With the introduction of a Core i7-7740K Intel could be answering to AMD's R7 Ryzen CPUs. The i7-7740K would basically be an overclocked Core i7-7700K with 4.3 GHz base and 4.6 GHz boost clock. Furthermore the TDP is going to change slightly and the new model receives a 100W+ rating. On top of that Intel might release a Core i5-7640K CPU as well. This particular chip would be a Core i5-7600K that received a 200 MHz overclock. According to Canard PC Hardware, the new Kaby Lake Core i5-7640K will also feature Hyperthreading.

If this rumor is correct, the new Core i5-7640K might be the first Core i5 ever to Hyperthreading. However Intel could disable features like AVX to create a gap between the Core i5-7640K and the Core i7-7740K. At the moment there is no word on when we could expect these two new CPUs, but if this rumor is correct we might see the new Core i7-7740K and the new Core i5-7640K quite soon.
