Sapphire already has a wide portfolio when it comes to graphics cards but nevertheless they have shown yet another model based on AMD’s Polaris 11 GPU. The RX 460 Nitro OC 1024 SP features a fully enabled Polaris 11 GPU with 1024 stream processors. Compared to a standard RX 460 graphics these are 14% more stream processors.
A few months ago the guys over at Wccftech spotted a BIOS update which allowed users to unlock the Polaris 11 GPU on their RX 460 graphics cards. This procedure is well known on AMD since with every generation of graphics card there are usually some models, which are based on cut-down chips and can be unlocked. However this operation is always a bit risky since you can easily kill your card and the warranty plan doesn’t cover such an event.
With the RX 460 Nitro OC 1024 SP Sapphire offers a RX 460 with higher performance than the original variant. Having a closer look at the specs we see that the RX 460 Nitro OC 1024 SP comes factory-overclocked to 1250MHz core clock, while the reference RX 460 works at 1200MHz core frequency. This is only a tiny factory OC, nevertheless it’s better to get a card with a little overclock than none at all. The card is based on the same custom PCB as the standard Sapphire RX 460 Nitro and therefore there is also a 6-pin PCIe power connector.
So far Sapphire has not revealed any details on pricing and availability on their RX 460 Nitro OC 1024 SP graphics card.
