HGST, a part of the Western Digital Corp., has unveiled its newest Ultrastar SN150 PCI-Express NVMe solid state drive, certified for use with VMware Virtual SAN and vSphere.
Coming in 1600GB and 3200GB capacities and available in low-profile, half-height half-length (HHHL) add-in card form factor, the new Ultrastar SN150 PCIe NVMe SSD uses PCI-Express 3.0 x4 interface and offers sequential read and write performance of up to 3000MB/s and 1600MB/s. The random 4k read and write performance hits 743,000 and 140,000 IOPS and it has an endurance rating of 3DW/D.
The new HGST Ultrastar SN150 PCIe NVMe SSD is part of HGST's Ultrastar SN100 series lineup and has exactly the same specifications as the previously available Ultrastar SN100 SSD which was available in SFF 2.5-inch form-factor.
According to HGST, the NVMe-based Ultrastar SN150 SSD can deliver up to nearly four times the IOPS performance for 4K random reads and nearly twice the IOPS performance for 4K random writes, compared to commonly used Virtual SAN certified SAS products.
Thanks to its low latency, it is designed to give consistent and predictable performance, making them suitable for latency-sensitive On Line Transaction Processing (OLTP) database workloads, fast Virtual Desktops, and mixed workloads environments, like e-Commerce and similar.
HGST's new Ultrastar SN150 PCIe NVMe SSD should be available for customers soon.
