According to the latest rumor, AMD could launch its new AM4 chipset motherboards as early as October.
The latest report coming from Overclock3D.net suggests that AMD could launch its new AM4 chipset in October, bringing support for DDR4 memory, PCIe Gen 3, USB 3.1 and NVMe storage.
While we haven't heard many details regarding AMD's upcoming AM4 socket, we do know that AMD has integrated both the northbridge and the southbridge into its CPUs, making the new AM4 chipset motherboards compatible with both APUs and CPUs, creating a unified socket.
This gives buyers a lot of flexibility and upgrade options as it would be easier to upgrade from an APU to a more powerful system with high-end CPU and dedicated GPU.
AMD already said that it should launch its new Bristol Ridge APUs, based on Excavator CPU architecture and GCN 3.0 GPU architecture in late 2016, while next-generation CPUs, based on Zen CPU architecture, should be also coming in late 2016 or early 2017. Later next year, AMD is expected to introduce its new Raven Ridge APUs which will be based on Zen CPU architecture and GCN 4.0 Polaris-based GPU.
Hopefully, we will have a chance to check out AMD AM4 motherboards and Zen-based CPUs/APUs will live up to their expectations.
