MSI unveils the new X99A Workstation motherboard

Supports both Broadwell-E and Xeon CPUs

MSI has added yet another motherboard to its X99 lineup, the workstation-oriented MSI X99A Workstation, with support for ECC memory and plenty of other features usually seen on consumer-oriented motherboards.

According to what we can see from the specification list, the MSI X99A Workstation has an 8-phase CPU VRM with additional phases for the memory and uses Titanium Chokes and Dark CAPs. It also comes with the new Guard-Pro feature which protects all the key components from humidity, high temperature, ESD and EMI as well as circuit protection.

All eight DDR4 memory slots, supporting up to 128GB of DDR4-3333 ECC/non-ECC memory, actually use MSI's DDR4 Boost slots with Steel Armor. The same goes for three PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots working at x16, x16/x16 or x8/x16/x8 modes, which means it supports both 3-way SLI and 3-way Crossfire. It also features two PCI-Express 2.0 x1 slots.

The rest of the specifications include 10 SATA 6Gbps ports, single eSATA, one M.2 (PCIe 3.0 x4 or SATA 6Gb/s) and one U.2 port (PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe) for storage, has dual Intel-based Ethernet, plenty of USB 3.1 and USB 3.0 ports, MSI's Audio Boost 3, Click BIOS 5 and EZ Debug LED features and much more.

To make the new X99A Workstation worthy for a workstation environment, MSI has used a 7000+ hours validation for it, making it suitable for 24/7 workload.

Unfortunately, MSI did not reveal any details regarding the price or the availability date but we spotted the MSI X99A Workstation motherboard listed at Amazon with a US $389.99 price tag.
