Doom gets Vulkan API patch

Brings significant performance improvements

Bethesda has finally launched its Vulkan API patch for Doom game and according to first results, it brings significant performance improvements, especially on AMD Radeon RX 480.

According to a post over at Bethesda.net, the new patch should allow older GPUs to run the game at playable framerates and there should be significant performance improvements with the latest AMD and Nvidia drivers.

Earlier, Bethesda unveiled the Update 1 patch which brought plenty of fixes and new features and the latest Vulkan API patch should provide significant performance improvements.

According to a post from AMD, the newest Doom Vulkan API patch uses several features, including Asynchronous Shaders, Shaders Intrinsics (Shader Intrinsic Functions) and the Frame Flip Optimizations.

All of these features bring significant performance improvements for AMD Radeon RX 480, compared to OpenGL, ranging from up to 27 percent at 1080p to up to 23 percent at 1440p resolution.




The new Vulkan API Doom patch should be already rolling out via Steam on PC.
