Lian Li goes budget-friendly with new K-series cases
Switches from aluminum to steel
Lian Li has unveiled its newest budget-friendly PC cases that will be a part of its new K-series lineup and should offer Lian Li quality and features but at a much lower price, due to a switch from brushed aluminum to steel, the PC-K5, PC-K6, and PC-K6S.
According to Lian Li, all three new mid-tower cases are good choices for games on a budget, offering competitive air and liquid cooling support, full ATX support and plenty of features. Lian Li has been known for their brushed aluminum cases for quite some time and although there have been plenty of requests, Lian Li has been sticking to quality and aluminum, at least until now.
While these will be build with steel rather than aluminum, they will still offer plenty of features, including tool-less design, grommeted panel cutouts for cable management, removable mesh filters on fans, vibration-dampened PSU and drive cages and more.
The cheapest in the new K-series Ebonsteel lineup is the PC-K5, a standard mid-tower PC case with support for ATX and mATX motherboards. It features two removable cages for a total of four 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch drives, seven expansion slots, two 5.25-inch external drive bays, support for up to 250mm long graphics cards (400mm without cages), 250mm long PSU and up to 160mm tall CPU coolers.
When it comes to cooling, the PC-K5 features two 120mm intake fans at the front and single 120mm fan at the rear but has enough room for two additional 120mm fans at the top, which is also the place where you can mount a 240mm radiator for liquid cooling system.
The new Lian Li PC-K6 is also a mid-tower PC case with support for ATX or mATX motherboard but supports up to seven 3.5-inch or 2.5-inch drives. Similar to the earlier introduced J-series cases, the drives and the PSU are covered with steel panels, hiding them from sight. It supports up to up to 310mm long graphics card, up to 310mm long PSUs and up to 170mm tall CPU coolers.
The PC-K6 comes with two 120mm intake front and single 120mm rear exhaust fan but supports 140mm intake fans and has room for two additional 120mm or 140mm fans at the top. This also means it supports both 240mm and 280mm radiators at the top. It also comes with two 5.25-inch external drive bays.
The PC-K6S is quite similar to the PC-K6 but focuses on silence as it comes with a few extra features, including sound-dampening foam inserts in the panels as well as a hinged front panel that allows access to the front 5.25-inch bays and 120mm front intake fans.
The entire Lian Li Ebonsteel cases will be available in June, with PC-K5 coming in early June PC-K6 and PC-K6S coming in late June. The price is set at US $56 for the plain PC-K5 version and US $60 for the windowed version. The PC-K6 will be priced at US $93 while the silent version will sell for US $109.
We certainly hope that this budget-friendly series from Lian Li will have no effect on the rest of its lineup as Lian Li was reserved for enthusiasts and those looking for a high-end PC case, no matter the price.
