Intel has accidentally leaked its upcoming Core i7-6950X Extreme Edition CPU over at its website showing a beast that is clocked at up to 3.5GHz and comes with 10 CPU cores.
Accidentally listed on Intel's support website under Management Engine software change-log, the Core i7-6950X Extreme Edition is based on 14nm Broadwell architecture and uses LGA2011v3 socket, making it compatible with currently available Intel X99 Express chipset motherboard. Of course, motherboard makers will have to release BIOS updates.
According to earlier details, the Core i7-6950X Extreme Edition should be the first consumer-based CPU packing 10-cores. Earlier rumors also suggested that it could have a slightly higher price than usual US $999, which was reserved for Intel's flagship HEDT chips.
According to leaked specifications, the Core i7-6950X has 25MB of L3 cache and a clock speed of up to 3.5GHz.
Although we still do not have precise specifications, it is good to see that some earlier rumors are confirmed. The rest of the lineup should include a US $999 priced 8-core Core i7-6900K as well as a US $600 and US $400 priced Core i7-6850K and Core i7-6800K, both 6-core CPUs.
Intel is expected to launch these new CPUs sometime in Q2 2016.
