45W TDP with 16-core Broadwell SOC

For low power microservers

According to a report from CPU-World.com Intel released a price list on February 12, which contained a new 16-core Xeon D1571 processor for microservers. Considering that it's TDP tops out at just 45W it looks like a rather interesting model.

It appears that the Xeon D-1571 is going to be the new flagship of Intels Xeon D processor family. This chip will be based on the same cores like the "big" Xeon processors yet targeting microservers. Being a bit more precise on its field of application the Xeon D-1500 series processors are also meant to be used in storage environments.

Since Intel pulled the price list, which they uploaded February 12, from the server and replaced it with an old one not containing this chip, the Xeon D-1571 might be coming soon. This chip is going to be based on 14nm Broadwell microarchitecture supporting all x86 extensions. There will be 16 CPU cores and 24 MB L3 Cache, wehereas the cores are going to run at 1.3 GHz, which is the secret behind the low power consumption of only 45W TDP. The CPU also supports Hyperthreading allowing it to handle 32 threads at the same time.

According to CPU-World.com, who had access to the yet pulled price list, the offical price of the Xeon D-1571 will be $1222 US.
