In addition to the new Nexus smartphones and new Chromecast devices, Google has also unveiled its new Pixel C tablet, a 10.2-inch premium tablet that will provide decent competition to the iPad Pro once it comes to market in time for the holidays.
Differentiating it from the "affordable" Nexus lineup, the Pixel C tablet continues Google's Pixel tradition, featuring a high-end display and high-end hardware. As noted, the Pixel C is designed around a 10.2-inch screen with 2560x1800 resolution (308ppi) and 500 nits of brightness.
The heart of the Pixel C is the Nvidia Tegra X1 SoC with four Cortex-A57 and four Cortex-A53 CPU cores and Maxwell 256-core GPU, paired up with 3GB of RAM. Same as the new Nexus smartphones, the Pixel C tablet will also feature a USB Type-C port.
In order to give it an edge over other tablets on the market, Google has designed an optional high-end keyboard that magnetically attaches to the Pixel C and should offer benefits of a full-size keyboard with a portability of a tablet, according to Google. The keyboard has its own battery which charges inductively when attached to the tablet back.
Unlike the Pixel Chromebook, the Pixel C tablet will be based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.
While it was not precise about the launch date, other than it will be ready in time for the holidays, Google said that the Pixel C will be available in 32GB and 64GB version and priced at US $499 and US $599, respectively.
