While all eyes are usually on high-end SoCs, the mid-range SoCs are usually the ones that can be found in a larger number of devices and Qualcomm has announced two new mid-range SoCs, the Snapdragon 430 and the Snapdragon 617.
Both new mid-range SoCs from Qualcomm will feature support for recently announced Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology and will co-exist with Qualcomm's current mid-range lineup, which include the Snapdragon 618 and the Snapdragon 620.
The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC is an octa-core design with eight Cortex A53 CPU cores running at 1.2GHz and Adreno 505 GPU. It also features Hexagon 536 DSP and dual image processors with support for up to 21-megapixel cameras. The connectivity side includes X6 LTE modem with support for Cat.4 LTE 150Mbps with 75Mbps upload and 2x10 carrier aggregation.
The new Snapdragon 617 SoC is rather interesting as it uses the same octa-core configuration as the Snapdragon 430, with eight Cortex A53 cores, which are clocked at tad higher 1.5GHz, but it pairs it up Adreno 305 GPU. It also comes with better Hexagon 546 DSP and same dual-ISPs for camera and imaging. It includes a faster X8 LTE modem with support for Cat.7 LTE 300Mbps, 100Mbps upload and 2x20 carrier aggregation.
The Snapdragon 617 SoC is expected in device by the end of this year while the Snapdragon 430 should start showing up in Q2 2016.
