While we already had a chance to see the teased liquid-cooled ASUS ROG GX700 notebook, now we have a bit more details and it appears that it runs on Nvidia's new GTX 990M GPU.
Spotted by Computerbase.de, this still unnamed GPU packs 2048 CUDA cores and works at 1,190 MHz for the GPU and has 8GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with a 256-bit memory interface.
It is obvious that we are looking at the new Nvidia GPU since the currently available notebook flagship GPU from Nvidia is the GTX 980M which packs 1536 CUDA cores. Most likely based on the GM204 GPU, it will be quite similar to the destkop GTX 980 graphics card. The rest of the specs for the ASUS GX700 have been revealed earlier and, as expected, it runs on Intel's latest Skylake Core i7-6820HK unlocked CPU with base clock of 2.7GHz, 3.6GHz Turbo, 8MB of L3 cache and Intel HD Graphics 530 IGP.
According to the same source, the external liquid cooling box is only connected to the GPU and it does not directly cool the CPU, which is kinda strange as you would expect ASUS to do a full closed loop system for both the GPU and the CPU. The reason behind it is that you will probably be able to disconnect the liquid cooling system and somehow use the notebook without it, presumably with integrated Intel HD Graphics 530 GPU, but this is yet to be confirmed.
In any case, we are still waiting for more details regarding the ASUS ROG GX700 notebook but the word at the IFA 2015 show is that it could cost around US $4,000 when it comes out.
