While it mostly relied on Qualcomm in the past, Samsung has recently become quite a rival to the same company with its Exynos SoC and it appears that the company plans to offer the new Exynos 7420 SoC to other smartphone makers.
As you already know, Samsung has been mostly using Qualcomm's Snapdragon SoC in the past but with the development of the 14nm Exynos SoC, which has been successfully used in both the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge, it appears that Samsung might have a winner on its hands and plans to offer it to other smartphone makers as well.
According to recent rumors, Meizu might be the first customer to use Exynos SoC as the Exynos 7420 octa-core SoC could be the heart of the upcoming Meizu MX5 Pro flagship. Recent rumors
coming from SamMobile.com suggest that the Exynos 7420 octa-core SoC, with four high-performance Cortex-A57 and fore low-power Cortex-A53 cores and ARM Mali-T760 could be behind Meizu's new flagship and could power other smartphones in future.
While the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge did not do as well as the company hoped, Samsung needs to increase its revenues and profitability and pay for the SoC-related research and development, something it can only do if it gives the Exynos SoC to other smartphone makers.
Samsung still needs to extend its Exynos SoC lineup in order to compete with the likes of Qualcomm and MediaTek but it is definitely going into that direction.
