ADATA launches new 960GB Premier SP550 SSD

SM2256 controller and TLC NAND

ADATA Technology has unveiled the latest addition to its Premier line of solid state drives, the 960GB Premier SP550 SATA 6Gbps SSD.

The Premier SP550 is actually ADATA's first SDD based on the Silicon Motion (SMI) SM2256 controller and is paired up with TLC flash NAND. According to ADATA, the new SM2256 controller will bring some new technologies including NANDXtend technology which allows ADATA to include LDPC ECC, and a RAID engine for enhanced data protection, stability, and reliability, while SLC caching technology should boost the performance.

Unfortunately, ADATA did not unveil any details regarding the performance but we expect similar performance to the rest of the Premier SP550 lineup, or up to 560MB/s for read and up to 510MB/s for write when it comes to sequential performance and up to 75K/75K IOPS read and write random 4K performance

ADATA also did not unveil any details regarding the price or the availability date.
